Travis Garcia is a graduate student in the School of Christian Studies and a JAM Scholarship recipient.

My name is Travis Garcia, and I am originally from South Texas. I have called San Angelo, TX my home for the last three years as I serve as the Student Minister at Southland Baptist Church. First off, let me say thank you for your support in my higher education. It is an incredible opportunity to grow and develop for ministry in a wonderful environment such as Howard Payne University. I share this journey with my incredible family. My wife, Erin, who is also a graduate of Howard Payne, is a preschool educator as well as a wonderful encourager and supporter of my graduate level education. Also helping is my son Jacob, who always reminds me to make room for fun and laughter as often as possible.

Remaining a learner has been an important guide for my life, and early on I knew graduate school would play a role in that process. It was during my final year in high school that God called me to vocational ministry to serve the Church through the gifts and talents He placed in my life. Following this call has led me to some incredible places, and I have met some wonderful people and I know that will continue in the days ahead! As far as what I have planned for my future, it is tough to say what that will look like. The great thing about education is that it does not allow you to stay in the same place you started. It pushes us to change, grow, and move to new perspectives and understandings. I am excited to see where these new paths might take me as I continue to follow the call God placed before me.
