By Mackenzie Langham | The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has added a new division of discipleship aimed to reach a broader audience on Howard Payne’s campus.
The new tier in FCA is called FCA Membership, and their focus is discipleship.
Senior Jessica Swonger, who is triple majoring in the honors academy, psychology, and jurisprudence, has been HPU’s FCA Chapter President since the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year.
Swonger shared her vision for this new FCA tier, “discipleship is for those who are seeking to grow deeper in their relationship with Christ and looking to learn how to be a leader within their team and on campus. Specifically, they help out our Leadership Team by assisting in the organization and the running of team Bible studies.”
Parker Hughes, sophomore education major and FCA leader, said, “leadership is leading [these] disciple groups for those interested in becoming [FCA] members.”
If someone is interested in doing more than attending the Huddles or events of FCA, this may be just the thing for them! For those who do not know, the group is not explicitly for athletes. Any Howard Payne University student interested in the FCA Membership can take part.
Swonger expanded and said, “Discipleship is a community of people who do life together. It is our hope that, in going through this process, we see people connect with the Word of God like they never have before.”
The heart of FCA is devoted to pointing others to Christ through an intimate connection with the Word of God.
FCA Membership will be meeting once a month, 9 p.m. on Mondays.
For those interested in getting involved, reach out to anyone on FCA Leadership, or find them at one of the Huddle sessions or game night.
