Howard Payne University’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes recently held the Tony Daniel Memorial 5K. The run served as a fundraiser for the FCA and an opportunity to pay tribute to the FCA Brownwood area director, who passed in 2018.
“Tony Daniel was such a great example of how to live life in a Christ-like way,” said Kristin Haman, athletic trainer and HPU FCA sponsor. “He was an encourager, a leader and a great steward of the Gospel message. His efforts helped more than 3,000 athletes in Brown County come to faith in Christ and countless others grow in their faith during his time as the Brownwood area FCA director.”
Approximately $1,500 was raised through the race, to be set aside in the FCA’s scholarship fund and used to send athletes and coaches to FCA camps in Texas.
The race’s route followed a course on the HPU campus. First, second and third finishing runners were Seth Jesko of Early, Emma Stegemoller of Brownwood and Griffin Ehlers, an HPU sophomore from Early majoring in bioscience.
Applications are being accepted for the fall 2019 semester at Howard Payne University (www.hputx.edu/apply). HPU offers a variety of financial aid options, including scholarships for students from Brown County and surrounding counties.
